Description

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated, passionate Rural Entrepreneurship Coordinator with proactive initiative and a deep commitment to transforming farmers’ lives to support the dynamic efforts of One Acre Fund’s program in the DRC in Kongo Central. In an innovative and constantly evolving environment, One Acre Fund’s program in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) aims to serve more than 10,000 farmers over the next three years. The Rural Entrepreneurship Coordinator plays a central role in developing and supporting a network of rural entrepreneurs. Rural entrepreneurs within the One Acre Fund program manage decentralized nurseries, rural agro-input stores, and cutting propagation fields.

The main objective of the Rural Entrepreneurship Coordinator is to ensure the functioning of the network of rural entrepreneurs, their growth and professionalization in order to maximize the economic impact of these entrepreneurs in the service of small farmers in the region. The Rural Entrepreneur Manager will ensure the daily coordination of their work, strategic alignment with OAF objectives and the strengthening of their entrepreneurial capacities.

About the One Acre Fund

Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund provides more than 1.5 million family farmers with the agricultural services they need to make their businesses more productive and resilient. Our team of more than 8,000 people comes from diverse backgrounds and professions. Operating in ten African countries, we make farmers more prosperous by providing easier access to quality agricultural inputs, tree seedlings, and agricultural training to improve harvests. On average, the farmers we support earn 40% more from their land when they enroll in One Acre Fund.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), an estimated 1.1 million hectares of forest are lost each year. This deforestation, which has significant consequences for the region, is primarily attributed to small-scale agricultural practices. One Acre Fund works to address the root causes of deforestation—poverty and low agricultural yields—by providing smallholder farmers with the tools to move their farming operations off forest lands and help them achieve larger, healthier harvests. We train farmers in agroforestry, support the creation and development of farmer-led businesses, and work throughout the seed supply chain to ensure smallholder farmers have access to improved inputs.
