What is the difference between IOM and UNHCR?

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) are two different organizations with different mandates and areas of focus, although they both work to support refugees and migrants.

The main difference between IOM and UNHCR is that IOM primarily focuses on the management of migration, including assisting governments in managing migration and providing services to migrants, such as health assessments, transportation, and resettlement support. In contrast, UNHCR is primarily focused on protecting refugees and asylum seekers, providing assistance to those who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, or other factors.

UNHCR provides protection, assistance, and solutions for refugees, asylum seekers, and stateless persons, including through resettlement, repatriation, and other durable solutions. They also work to advocate for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers and to promote awareness and understanding of refugee issues.

Both IOM and UNHCR play important roles in supporting refugees and migrants, but they have different mandates and areas of focus. While IOM focuses on the management of migration, UNHCR focuses on the protection of refugees and asylum seekers.
