Description
Who are we ?
Inter Aide is an association specializing in implementing concrete development aid programs in rural areas for particularly disadvantaged families. In 2025, Inter Aide managed 49 programs in 7 countries with a total budget of approximately €11 million.
Inter Aide has been working for rural development in Sierra Leone since 2007. The organization’s work aims to improve access to drinking water and food security in four districts in the north and northwest of the country. In total, the Inter Aide team in Sierra Leone has approximately 80 people.
- The Water, Hygiene and Sanitation team is responsible for the construction and rehabilitation of around twenty water points per year as well as improving latrine coverage.
- A dedicated team is working on a major preventive maintenance program for water points, covering more than 3,000 wells through a network of independent technicians, thus improving the functionality of water points in the intervention area.
- The Household Water Treatment team develops home water treatment solutions for communities without access to a drinking water source.
- The Agricultural team works on improving production techniques and new cultivation systems.
In addition to these four program teams, there is a support department under the responsibility of the Country Coordinator, who provides cross-functional support to the programs.
Inter Aide has 3 offices in Sierra Leone located respectively in the towns of Makeni (IA headquarters in SL), Kamakwie and Port Loko.
A small West African country of 8 million inhabitants, marked by a complex and difficult modern history, Sierra Leone is today a peaceful country where different traditions and religions coexist. Its historical legacy still marks the country, which has very low development indicators nationally and even more so in rural areas.
Our area of operation, in the north of the country, is one of the areas where populations are most vulnerable, particularly in terms of food security and access to water. The position is based as close as possible to the projects, in Makeni, a medium-sized town in the north-central part of the country, relatively well connected to the rest of the country, located 2.5 hours from Freetown, and involves regular visits to rural intervention areas and other offices, in Kamakwie and Port Loko.
