About the Role

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Project Officer, Food Systems and Environment to support the coordination and implementation of project activities. This role will be offered on a 2 years’ fixed-term contract basis, subject to availability of funding. You will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Reporting to the Project Manager, Food Systems and Environment, the Project Officer will be responsible for core project activities and will provide a range of support services including reporting and summarizing, coordinating resources, partnership management and project plan implementation and monitoring to ensure project outcomes are achieved on time, on budget in accordance with GAINs Project Management Guidelines.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting timely project implementation of the environment workstream under the NFP programme at country level
  • Preparing draft cooperation agreement, budget and related documents and ensuring it complies with the standard contracting process and templates
  • Working with the Project Manager, Food Systems and Environment to develop meeting agendas, draft presentations and/or briefing notes and taking meeting minutes. Responsible for scheduling and planning for project meetings, events, and conference calls
  • Conducting regular field visits of activities carried out under the project by partners under the supervision of the Project Manager, Food Systems and Environment. Following up with partners for timely submission of reports and preparing timely monitoring reports with findings and recommendations
  • Maintaining strong partnerships with civil INGOs, government entities, private sector and other organizations
  • Working with global and country teams to develop communications materials such as blogs, articles, videos, social media posts in driving awareness and engagement with the linkages between nutrition and climate, and the solutions to joint challenges
  • Handling accurate and timely financial transactions of the program including processing purchase orders, contracts and invoices
  • Supporting the country team in developing project proposals in collaboration with the project team, technical team, and support team

About You

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in implementing projects in food systems and environment with government or international organizations and broad understanding of programme issues and advocacy work for development programmes, NGOs, donor funded and related projects. Candidates with experience working in climate-prone districts and financial administration processes would be an advantage.

You will have strong communication skills presenting and able to present clear and structured arguments. The ideal candidate should be fluent in written and spoken English and Bangla. You will be highly flexible and willing to GAIN’s implementation area. In addition to this, you will have strong ability to work with diverse groups/individuals, ranging from government ministries and departments, local governments, local community groups, civil society and the private sector.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree level in environmental science, agriculture, development studies, business administration, public health or related field. You will have experience in project management and passionate about the challenges of addressing nutrition, food systems and environmental issues.

About our Offer

The starting salary on offer for this role is from BDT 1,207,404 – BDT 1,381,380 per annum (gross salary), depending on experience.

GAIN has a fair and competitive salary structure that allows for annual progression subject to good performance. The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the United Nations in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Due to COVID19, conflict in Ukraine and climate change, malnutrition and hunger have worsened significantly since 2019, reversing a decade of progress. There is growing recognition that our food systems need to change if we are to reverse these trends.
